On an evening in May, eight volunteers gathered in the Gallatin Labor Temple in Bozeman for training in their new endeavor. A few had met before doing similar work: collecting voter information for political campaigns.
But they already knew the Stand With Montanans signature drive would be different. The signatures they collected could put Initiative 166 on Montana’s November ballot.
If approved by Montana voters, I-166 could not only influence all Montana politics but also reverse the national political chaos unleashed by the Supreme Court in its Citizens United decision.
