The petition delivery comes days after Congressman Neal joined 139 other Members of the U.S. House of Representatives in voting to advance Congressman Al Green’s articles of impeachment against Trump

SPRINGFIELD, MA – Yesterday, activists with Rise Up Western Mass Indivisible, joined by allied grassroots organizations, delivered more than 3,000 petition signatures from the First Congressional District of Massachusetts to the office of Congressman Richard Neal (MA-01), demonstrating their support for impeachment proceedings against Donald Trump in response to a growing list of constitutional violations and abuses of power.

The delivery follows months of escalating public concern in Western Massachusetts over President Trump’s second-term actions, which activists say pose an existential threat to democratic governance and the rule of law.

As grassroots organizers in Massachusetts’ First Congressional District, we believe democracy isn’t self-sustaining; it requires vigilance and action,” said Kirsten Helmer, a member of the steering committee of Rise Up Western Mass Indivisible. “With these signatures, our community is showing Congressman Neal that we support his recent vote to advance impeachment in Congress and we call on him to do more to uphold the Constitution, by introducing his own articles of impeachment for a new House floor vote.

Rise Up Western Mass Indivisible has been organizing for democracy, accountability, and justice across the district, including mobilizing more than 4,000 people at a June 14, 2025 protest in Springfield opposing President Trump’s unconstitutional actions. Just ten days later, 78 Members of Congress voted with Rep. Al Green to advance articles of impeachment – a vote Congressman Neal opposed, to the disappointment of many constituents.

Since that vote, the list of impeachable offenses has only grown,” said Tom Hidalgo, steering committee member of Rise Up Western Mass Indivisible. “We’ve watched the President federalize local policing, deploy armed National Guard troops, pressure state officials to rig congressional maps, authorize masked ICE agents to detain people without warrants, weaponize the Justice Department, and use public office for personal enrichment. These actions demand a constitutional response.

Notably, Congressman Neal joined 139 other Members of the U.S. House of Representatives on December 11, 2025, in voting to advance Congressman Al Green’s articles of impeachment against Trump for abuse of power and inciting violence in calling for the execution of Members of Congress and in threatening federal judges.

The Western Massachusetts petition delivery comes amid a nationwide impeachment movement. Earlier this year, Free Speech For People and Women’s March delivered nearly one million petition signatures to congressional leadership as part of the Impeach Trump Again Campaign, a petition that now cites twenty-five grounds for impeachment, including violations of the War Powers Clause, defiance of court orders, abuse of emergency powers, and unlawful use of federal forces against civilians.

Rise Up Western Mass Indivisible stressed that their call for impeachment is not partisan, but constitutional.

Impeachment exists for moments like this, when normal checks and balances fail,” said Hidalgo. “Delaying accountability risks turning today’s extraordinary abuses into tomorrow’s accepted presidential powers. Our democracy cannot afford that.

The group is urging constituents to continue contacting Congressman Neal and to support the national Impeach Trump Again Campaign, led by constitutional lawyers at Free Speech For People.
