Public Interest Attorney

Free Speech For People is accepting applications for a Public Interest Attorney with 3+ years experience, preferably including campaign finance, civil rights, and/or election law.

Specific projects will emerge and evolve and job duties will vary over time, but the day-to-day will likely center on litigation, legislation, and legal support for the organization’s advocacy before administrative agencies. Job duties may also include occasional media interviews, public speaking, organizing panels, symposia, or similar events; and working with our campaign and communications teams on our grassroots campaigns.

The attorney will report to Free Speech For People’s Legal Director (Ron Fein), based in Newton, MA. Candidates living in other locations may be considered if they have a demonstrated ability to work independently and remotely.

Legal Internship

Applications are closed for Summer internships in 2022, but every year we seek rising 2Ls or 3Ls, who are dedicated to public interest work, write well, and are excited to work for a non-profit leading cutting-edge legal initiatives. Con Law (especially First Amendment) is a plus but not essential.

You might be researching impact litigation, or working on an amicus brief, or drafting legislation, or creating educational resources. Or something totally different. But you definitely won’t be doing doc review.

Due to uncertainty about the COVID pandemic, we have recently accepted applications from students anywhere in the United States. If the conditions improve, interns who are in or near Boston, Massachusetts may be able to work from our legal office based in Newton.
