An opinion piece by Free Speech For People’s senior advisor for election security, Susan Greenhalgh, has prompted legal experts at Democracy Defenders Fund to seek an investigation into potentially improper or unlawful actions by the U. S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC).

The oped was published November 4, 2025 in Democracy Docket and outlined concerns that the EAC may be planning to decertify voting systems improperly and unlawfully at the behest of Donald Trump in order to disrupt elections.

In a detailed letter to the agency’s Inspector General, lawyers at Democracy Defenders Fund fleshed out the concerns and urged the IG to investigate for potential violations of EAC policy, the Help America Vote Act of 2002, and the Administrative Procedures Act. The letter was signed by former Ambassador Norm Eisen; Virginia Canter, Ethics and Anticorruption Chief Counsel; and Diamond Brown, senior legal counsel for Democracy Defenders Fund.
