We advance this mission with the following innovative, effective, and complementary strategies: We catalyze and help lead the movement to amend the U.S. Constitution to overturn the Supreme Court’s rulings in Citizens United v. FEC and Buckley v. Valeo, and the doctrines underlying those rulings; We engage in legal advocacy to advance a new jurisprudence on money in politics and to confront the misuse of the U.S. Constitution to claim corporate exemptions from our laws; We develop and advocate for model laws and other tools to challenge big money in politics and to make corporations responsible and accountable to the public. Free Speech For People seeks to hire a Development Director to lead our fundraising work across the country. The Development Director will have significant experience in prior development work, including outreach to major individual donors and foundations, long-term development planning, grants management, and event planning. The Development Director reports to the President of Free Speech For People (John Bonifaz), based in Amherst, Massachusetts, and also works closely with the Director of Administration and Finance (Oske Buckley), based in Austin, Texas. Responsibilities of the Development Director Work with the Board and President to develop the most the effective long term development strategy for Free Speech For People; Create and implement a development plan to raise an annual budget of 1.5 million dollars; Train and lead other staff to support fundraising and marketing efforts; Support the President and the Board in high donor cultivation and fundraising; Oversee foundation relationships as well as coordinate grants management including the deadlines for letters of interest, formal grants and grants reporting; Develop and grow individual donor base; manage annual giving campaign; and together with the President, cultivate major gifts; Work with campaign staff to track successes in the field and report back to donors; Coordinate with the online team to develop successful online fundraising program; Oversee the work of the Director of Administration and Finance to manage grant proposals and reports, the budget, the database and financial reports. Additional Qualifications & Skills A bachelors degree and at least five years of fundraising and development experience; Events, volunteer and board management experience; Superior oral and written communications skills and ability to coordinate multiple projects and deadlines; Proficiency in MS Office and E-Tapestry software a plus; Desire for responsibility and leadership in a fast paced, exciting and timely campaign; Flexibility, sense of humor and commitment to social justice a must.
