USA Today published a new oped by FSFP Legal Director Ron Fein and Campaign Director Alexandra Flores-Quilty on why election officials nationwide have a duty to abide by Section Three of the Fourteenth Amendment and bar insurrectionists such as Donald Trump from the ballot.

“In order to protect our democracy from normalized violent uprisings, election officials must follow the mandate of Section 3 of the 14th Amendment and bar all insurrectionists, including former President Donald Trump, who previously held elected office from appearing on any ballot for future public office. By inciting the insurrection, Trump made himself ineligible to run for president or hold any other public office again,” say the authors.

Free Speech For People recently relaunched the 14point3 campaign in collaboration with Our Revolution to mark the one year anniversary of the deadly January 6 insurrection at the nation’s Capitol. We are working together to urge Secretaries of State in all fifty states and Washington D.C to ensure that elected-officials-turned-insurrectionists, including Donald Trump, are blocked from appearing on any future ballot, as Section 3 of the 14th Amendment requires.

“When oath breakers who care so little for the Constitution that they support a violent attack on their own government seek high office, we cannot simply hope that they don’t attain positions of power. We must ensure that they don’t,” say the authors.
