Washington, D.C.With just over a week to go, organizers and participants are preparing for the March for Health & Science.  A growing coalition of health, science, and democracy groups will march to the Department of Health and Human Services to demand the removal of Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

The March For Health & Science will begin at 3:30 PM EST on November 5th immediately following the American Public Health Association (APHA) Rally. The coalition and its allies will march across the National Mall and over to the Department of Health and Human Services (200 Independence Ave SW).

The coalition behind the March for Health & Science continues to expand, with The Committee to Protect Health Care and MoveOn Civic Action joining as its newest partners. The group joins a growing list of organizations with a unified message: Secretary Kennedy has undermined public health institutions, endangered lives, and eroded public trust –he is a public health menace.

Kennedy is dismantling America’s public health infrastructure and destroying our public health protections, expertise, research, data, and safeguards,” said Suparna Reddy, Senior Counsel at Free Speech For People. “He shows complete disregard for science and for the actual lives jeopardized by his actions. Congress must act to prevent further damage to our public health system by impeaching and removing Kennedy from office.

The coalition will also deliver over 100,000 signatures from eight petitions –organized by Stand Up For Science, Physicians for a Healthy Democracy, Nurses for America, The Accountability Journalism Institute’s Scientific Advisory Board, Free Speech For People, Science Accountability Institute, MoveOn Civic Action, and The Committee to Protect Healthcare –demand not only Kennedy’s removal but also call for bipartisan Congressional action to reverse his harmful policies and budget cuts. The delivery of the signatures will take place when the House is back in session.

Put simply, RFK Jr. is not qualified to manage HHS and we are seeing–and will continue to see–the consequences of his lack of expertise in the form of loss of life. Kennedy, supported by Congress, is taking apart successful public health policy and programs that have saved millions of lives. These changes will not make America healthy again, they will result in preventable deaths. Kennedy must be removed, says Colette Delawalla, Founder and Executive Director of Stand Up for Science.

The petitions call on Congress to:

  • Remove Robert Kennedy Jr. as Health and Human Services Secretary.
  • Reverse the harmful changes Kennedy has made to America’s critical public health institutions:
    • Restoring accountability and expertise in leadership.
    • Adhering to the best available science in policy decisions.
    • Restoration of federal public health data collection.
    • Resumption of funding for science and health.
    • Ending political litmus tests for science.

Coalition member organizations are available for comment on the record before, during, and after the march.
