Free Speech for People Board Member Jennifer Taub recently co-authored an op-ed with Joshua A. Geltzer, Neal K. Katyal, and Laurence H. Tribe in the Washington Post about the Trump administration’s authoritarian response to peaceful protestors and its simultaneous push to dismiss the case against Michael Flynn via a court brief.

“The brief represents a remarkable new position by the Trump Justice Department: The doors of federal courthouses should be closed to hearing arguments other than those advanced by the department itself, and federal judges may not even inquire into whether the administration has acted improperly,” say the authors.

This follows recent revelations that the Trump administration used military force to push out peaceful protesters outside the White House. The authors argue that the President’s latest actions are an affront to the democratic ideals of free speech and an independent judiciary.
