On November 10, 2018, Free Speech For People President, John Bonifaz, and Board Member, Jennifer Taub, spoke at a ‘Nobody is Above the Law’ rally in Northampton, MA. Similar rallies took place across the country in response to the President’s latest move to obstruct justice, by firing Attorney General Jeff Sessions (who had appropriately recused himself from overseeing  investigations into the 2016 election) and installing Matthew Whitaker (a Trump loyalist) as acting Attorney General. The appointment of Whitaker is not only illegal and unconstitutional, but it is a transparent attempt by the President to undermine the investigation by Special Counsel Robert Mueller.

Over 100,000 people rallied across the country to demonstrate that the President is #NotAbovetheLaw.

In addition to highlighting that the Mueller investigation must move forward without interference by the President, John Bonifaz, in his remarks, called on Congress to begin an impeachment investigation of Donald Trump:

There is a separate investigation that must move forward in the United States Congress with respect to whether or not this President has committed any impeachable offenses.

Impeachment is in the United States Constitution to address crimes against the state, abuse of power, and abuse of the public trust. It is separate and distinct from federal crimes. There is no requirement whatsoever to find a criminal conviction in order to start an impeachment process. Further, Robert Mueller is not looking at all of the impeachable offenses this President has committed, starting from the moment he took the oath of office.
