Craig Newmark Philanthropies works to protect the values that America aspires to: fairness, opportunity, and respect. We are honored to be selected for a renewed grant from Craig Newmark Philanthropies and to partner together to advance these shared values. The grant award from Craig Newmark Philanthropies will directly support our projects to defend voters, our elections, and our democracy. We are carrying out this work with the following key initiatives: Fighting in the courts to protect voters: Free Speech For People will advance our federal lawsuit seeking to stop an extremist group with ties to QAnon from conducting an illegal voter intimidation campaign in Colorado and in states across the country; we will challenge new restrictive voting laws which aim to suppress the votes of underrepresented voters in Arizona and Texas; and we will challenge, as needed, any emerging threats to the fundamental right to vote for all voters. Advancing our work to ban foreign-influenced corporate spending in elections: From California to New York to Congress, Free Speech For People is leading the fight to advance model legislation that would end foreign-influenced corporate spending in our elections, and would help restore democracy to we, the people. Holding elected officials accountable to Section 3 of the 14th Amendment to the Constitution: Free Speech For People has launched a campaign calling on state election officials across the country to uphold Section 3 of the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, disqualifying insurrectionists from holding future public office, including elected officials who engaged in the January 6, 2021 insurrection. In support of this campaign, we have filed a series of legal challenges against insurrectionists seeking re-election for public office and we are working to build a grassroots movement in support of holding insurrectionists accountable to the Constitution. Holding Big Tech accountable for abuse of power: Free Speech For People has drafted and is now advancing a model federal bill, the Big Tech Accountability Act, that will ensure accountability of global internet companies when they engage in targeted amplification of disinformation and threats of violence on their platforms. Thank you to Craig Newmark Philanthropies for this generous award, which supports Free Speech For People’s initiatives to defend our democracy!
