Last month, FSFP and our partners in St. Petersburg (including American Promise-Tampa Bay and the League of Women Voters St. Petersburg, and City Councilwoman Darden Rice) proposed an ordinance to abolish super PACsand limit foreign corporate money in local elections. The St. Petersburg City Council voted 6-1 to move forward for consideration our ordinance, with a City Council “Committee of Whole” meeting on the ordinance slated for October 27, 2016.

If the city passes this ordinance, this could be the case that ends super PACs and rolls back Citizens United, but the city could also face an expensive legal challenge. We know the city  cannot fight this fight alone—so we’ve launched a campaign to collect pledged donations to build up financial support heading into the next stages of this initiative.

Whatever pledged donations we receive will show the City Council Members that we’ve got their back. We will not collect pledged donations until a legal challenge is actually underway.
