Posted on August 27, 2017 (August 27, 2017) Share: We are just two City Council meetings away from making history in St. Petersburg! In a key win earlier this summer, the St. Petersburg City Council voted to move forward our model ordinance to abolish super PACs and limit foreign corporate money in local elections. We are just two hearings away from the St. Pete City Council deciding on whether to enact our Defend Our Democracy ordinance into law. The first of the final hearings is scheduled for next Thursday, September 7th at 1:30pm at the St. Petersburg City Hall. The City Council will vote at that hearing on whether to enact the ordinance, with a follow-up vote to take place at the St. Pete City Council hearing on September 21st. Stand up against super PACs on September 7th. Our ordinance is the first of its kind in the nation and will serve as an important model for communities across the country fighting back against the influence of super PACs and foreign corporate money in our elections. Time will be set aside at the meeting for public comments — this is your chance to make your voice heard! The enactment of the Defend Our Democracy ordinance in St. Pete would mark a major victory in the nationwide fight to end big money in our elections. We hope you’ll be there with us!
