In response to today’s news story about a criminal investigation by the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office into Donald Trump Jr. and Ivanka Trump for criminal fraud arising from the Trump SoHo project, Free Speech For People issues the following statement:

“This latest news provides more evidence of the Trump Organization’s history of fraudulent or illegal activity and why it should not be allowed to continue operating. In February 2017, we asked the Attorney General of New York, Eric Schneiderman, to open an investigation into whether to file a lawsuit to dissolve the Trump Organization and revoke its corporate charter under a provision of New York’s law that applies when a corporation has exceeded the authority conferred upon it by law and carried on its business in a persistently fraudulent or illegal manner.”

“Our letter specifically cited the Trump SoHo fraud, among many others, but the revelations in today’s news show that the basis for criminal fraud was even deeper than most people imagined, and the reason for the District Attorney’s decision not to prosecute was inextricably tied up with campaign contributions from Trump’s lawyer. And this is just one of the Trump Organization’s examples of fraudulent, illegal, or abusive conduct, as set forth in our February letter and a second letter identifying even more grounds for dissolution. We call upon the Attorney General to move forward expeditiously with an investigation into dissolving the Trump Organization.”
