Posted on March 12, 2019 (March 12, 2019) Share: For too long, big money interests have been drowning out the voices of everyday Americans and corrupting our political process. And, combined with that, our right to vote today is under attack by voter suppression efforts across the country. Thanks to millions of people from all across the country demanding Congress take action, the House of Representatives passed the For The People Act (H.R.1) on Friday, March 8, 2019, sending the bill to the U.S. Senate. H.R. 1 would create a clean elections system, empowering grassroots donors to play a much bigger role in the political process. As a result, Members of Congress would be much more accountable to the people, rather than the billionaires and the corporations. Further, the bill endorses a 28th Amendment to overturn the Citizens United ruling and to reclaim our democracy. And, the For the People Act includes provisions to protect the right to vote, make voting easier, and help ensure the integrity of our elections. Free Speech For People supports this bill to help protect and strengthen our democracy and urges the U.S. Senate to pass it. To read the text of the bill, click here.
