WASHINGTON — More than 70 groups sent a letter on Friday requesting that Speaker Pelosi pass a resolution authored by Rep. Cori Bush (D-MO), introduced on Monday, that would start an ethics investigation into the behavior and actions of Members of the U.S. House of Representatives to overturn the 2020 election and foment the insurrection at the Capitol. The resolution calls for appropriate punishments, including expulsion from the U.S. House if the Members violated their oaths. The letter states:

“Those members, who have attacked the fundamental rights of all Americans and disgraced our nation, must not be rewarded. None of their legislative ideas should ever be heard, and they should be ostracized from all legitimate legislative functions of our government for the next two years.”

The letter also asks Speaker Pelosi to immediately begin the impeachment process of Donald Trump by passing the resolutions led by Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and/or Rep. Cicilline (D-RI) “for his violent attempt to prevent the peaceful transfer of power, incite an insurrection and overthrow our democracy on January 6th.”

“Trump empowered and enabled this attempted coup, stoking white supremacy and encouraging domestic terrorists to storm the U.S. Capitol Building,” the letter states. “Trump must be removed from office and prosecuted for his actions before January 20th.”
