The Boston Globe today published a new oped by FSFP Board Chair and Senior Legal Advisor Ben Clements, FSFP President John Bonifaz, and FSFP Legal Director Ron Fein on why Congress must impeach Donald Trump again and bar him from future office.

“Trump has proved that he should not be allowed anywhere near public office. To secure our fragile democracy, Congress must impeach Trump again — and this time, get it right. The Constitution provides that judgment of impeachment may include ‘disqualification to hold and enjoy any Office of honor, Trust or Profit under the United States,’” say the authors.

The renewed call for Trump’s impeachment and disqualification from future office comes after The Washington Post on Sunday released a recorded phone conversation between the President and Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger. During the course of the phone call, Trump asks the election official to “find 11,780 votes” in order to overturn the presidential election results in that state. That solicitation of election fraud is illegal and constitutes an impeachable offense.

“Trump will soon be out of office. But after he spent his entire first term enriching himself, abusing the office of the president of the United States, and undermining our system of government, we can’t risk a sequel. The Constitution provides the remedy; Congress must use it,” the authors say.
