New national survey reinforces earlier polling showing majority support for impeachment

WASHINGTON, DC — A new national poll has found that 53% of Americans believe there are grounds for Congress to impeach President Donald Trump, including 40% who say there are “definitely” grounds for impeachment. Just 39% say there are not grounds for impeachment.

The findings closely mirror the results of Free Speech For People’s April 2026 national poll, conducted by Lake Research Partners, which found that 52% of likely 2026 voters supported impeaching President Trump, compared with 40% opposed. That survey also found overwhelming support among Democrats (84%) and majority support among independent voters (55%), underscoring broad concern about Trump’s conduct across the political spectrum.

Together, the two national polls demonstrate consistent majority public support for constitutional accountability. While the April survey asked whether Congress should impeach President Trump, the June Strength In Numbers/Verasight poll asked whether Americans believe there are already grounds for impeachment. In both cases, a majority answered yes.

The June 2026 Strength In Numbers/Verasight poll also found that Americans identify corruption and self-enrichment and abuse of presidential power as the leading reasons they believe President Trump has committed impeachable offenses.

The findings underscore growing public concern over President Trump’s ongoing attacks on constitutional democracy and reinforce the constitutional case for impeachment advanced by Free Speech For People through its nonpartisan Impeach Trump Again campaign.

Constitutional lawyers leading the campaign have documented hundreds of impeachable offenses across 27 separate grounds, including:

  • Engaging in corruption for his own and his close associates’ personal enrichment
  • Committing or Planning War and Humanitarian Crimes
  • Unconstitutionally usurping Congress’s power to declare war
  • Committing treason by levying war against the United States, individual states, and their people
  • Calling for the execution of Members of Congress
  • Abusing the power of his office to unlawfully maintain political power
  • Illegally kidnapping, imprisoning, and removing U.S. residents
  • Unconstitutionally and systemically violating the First Amendment
  • Defying court orders, threatening judges, and unconstitutionally usurping judicial authority
  • Abusing investigatory and prosecutorial powers

“Trump is actively dismantling the public institutions and constitutional protections that safeguard our democracy,” said Courtney Hostetler, Legal Director at Free Speech For People. “His assault on the Constitution and the rule of law are purposeful, and they are impeachable. Congress cannot stand idly by.”

“This is an existential moment for our nation and our democracy. We either have a Constitution, or we don’t,” said John Bonifaz, President and Co-Founder of Free Speech For People. “Donald Trump has already engaged in multiple abuses of power. We demand that our elected officials in Congress carry out the mandate of their oath to protect the Constitution at this critical time by standing up and demanding impeachment proceedings against this lawless president.”

More than one million Americans who have signed Free Speech For People’s impeachment petition, and the organization continues to call on Members of Congress to fulfill their constitutional duty by initiating impeachment proceedings against President Trump.
