Posted on January 26, 2023 Election Protection Share: On January 24, 2023, Free Speech For People issued a letter to the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights urging it to withdraw its November 2021 appointment of Cleta Mitchell to the U.S. Election Assistance Commission’s Board of Advisors. In 2021, the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights appointed Trump lawyer and election denier Cleta Mitchell to the U.S. Election Assistance Commission’s Board of Advisors, which works with the EAC to provide guidance to states on election administration. But Mitchell testified under oath before the January 6 House Select Committee in 2022 that no one in the American public has a constitutional right to vote for President of the United States. Mitchell was also part of the conspiracy, following the November 2020 election, to try to pressure the Georgia Secretary of State to “find” enough votes for Trump to (falsely) win the state. Cleta Mitchell should have no business influencing election administration. The Commission on Civil Rights must revoke Mitchell’s appointment to the Election Assistance Commission. The U.S. Commission on Civil Rights and the Election Assistance Commission are tasked with protecting the right to free and fair elections for every American voter, a freedom already under widespread attack. Mitchell’s actions are incompatible with these goals and prove that she is unfit to uphold this critical mission. The Commission on Civil Rights must uphold its own mission and integrity. It must revoke Cleta Mitchell’s appointment and replace her with a candidate who respects every American’s constitutional right to vote. Tell the Commission on Civil Rights: Revoke Cleta Mitchell’s appointment to the Election Assistance Commission. Sign our petition and demand action here. Read the letter here.
