Posted on July 30, 2021 Challenging Corruption Share: FSFP President John Bonifaz recently appeared on Background Briefing With Ian Masters to discuss Free Speech For People’s 14point3 campaign, which calls for Secretaries of State and chief election officials across the country to follow the mandate of Section 3 of the Fourteenth Amendment and bar insurrectionists, including Donald Trump, from any future ballot. “What we do know is that former President Donald Trump incited this insurrection: the facts make that very clear. And he is covered by having taken an oath of office and engaged in insurrection. But we also know there were many others who gave aid and comfort to the insurrection including those in Congress who fomented the Big Lie and after this insurrection took place, they went back into the Congress and they sought to overturn the election results from November 2020,” said Bonifaz. Last month, Free Speech For People launched the 14point3 campaign to make clear that former President Trump, Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX), Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO), and other previously elected insurrectionists are disqualified from future office under the aforementioned constitutional provision. Prior to the campaign launch, FSFP joined more than seventy groups in a letter requesting that Speaker Pelosi pass a resolution, authored by Rep. Cori Bush (D-MO), that calls for appropriate punishments – including expulsion from the U.S. House – for Members of that body who sought to overturn the 2020 election and foment the insurrection at the Capitol. “Anyone who sought to give aid and comfort to this insurrection, who voted to overturn the legitimate results of the November 2020 election, does not deserve to remain in Congress. They effectively went against their oath of office, which is to uphold and defend the Constitution – and that includes defending the right to vote,” said Bonifaz. Listen to the full discussion here.
