Posted on December 3, 2013 (July 16, 2021) FSFP Updates Share: On December 3rd, Free Speech For People is taking part in an exciting new event called #GivingTuesday, the day of giving where families, organizations, individuals, businesses, students and more come together to support the causes they are passionate about. This will be Free Speech For People’s first year in taking part in #GivingTuesday, and we have several ways you can get involved: We have a matching donor, for every donation you give it will automatically be doubled! For every “like” we receive on #GivingTuesday on our Facebook Page, we will receive $1 from a matching donor. We’ve created a new section on our Facebook page where you can upload a photo with a sign you’ve made showing your support for overturning Citizens United. We made it easy for you to upload the files to stand with others that have already shown their support. Click here to learn more. Why does supporting Free Speech For People’s work matter? The 2010 Citizens United Supreme Court Ruling allowed corporations to claim constitutional rights of free speech, as if they were people, and the right to spend unlimited amounts of money in our politics. This impacts nearly all other social, economic, and environmental issues facing our country today. When corporations spend money in our elections, (in pursuit of their corporate interests in the legislative process), that ultimately impacts the way our government runs, and more often than not, it’s not for the well being and interest of the people or the planet. By donating $10, $28 or $50 to Free Speech For People today on #GivingTuesday you’ll be supporting our work to fighting corruption in Washington and restoring democracy to the people. If you can’t donate today, we appreciate any action you can take on behalf of the campaign like spreading the word on facebook and twitter, uploading a photo on our new Facebook tab. P.S You can also enter our Facebook contest on twitter or instagram by using the hashtag #EndCitizensUnited with your photos! Photo by spatuletail / Shutterstock.com
