Come join the campaign to reclaim democracy for the people. Free Speech For People, a national nonpartisan nonprofit organization, was founded five years ago after the Supreme Court’s Citizens United v. FEC decision. We’re working to get big money out of politics and to push back against corporations claiming constitutional rights to disregard federal, state, and local laws. And we’re accepting applications for paid summer internships in our Legal Advocacy Program.

What do we do?

We’re at the cutting edge of the democracy movement. We litigate, draft and promote legislation, help develop constitutional and corporate law scholarship, and serve as a key legal resource for the growing movement to amend the Constitution to overturn Citizens United and restore democratic governance.

Our recent projects include launching a campaign on Inauguration Day calling upon Congress to pass a resolution calling for the House Committee on the Judiciary to investigate whether sufficient grounds exist for the impeachment of Donald John Trump, President of the United States; and launching a campaign to revoke the corporate charter of The Trump Organization, Inc. in New York State.  Our work also includes the federal lawsuit that could end super PACs, innovative local legislation in St. Petersburg, Florida to defend local elections from super PACs and political spending by foreign-influenced corporations, a federal campaign finance complaint against the Russian government and the Trump presidential campaign, and a bilingual issue report on how political contributions from private prisons and prison guard unions shackle immigration policy.

Who are you?

We’re looking for rising 2Ls or 3Ls who are dedicated to public interest work, write well, and can work in an entrepreneurial, startup nonprofit environment. Con Law (especially First Amendment) and/or corporations law is a plus but not essential. In rare cases, we will also consider (unpaid) undergraduate internships.

What will you do?

We’re not sure yet. You might be researching cutting-edge impact litigation, or working on an amicus brief, or drafting legislation, or creating educational resources. Or something totally different. But you definitely won’t be doing doc review.

Where’s the office?

Our legal office is in Newton Centre, Massachusetts, just outside Boston, and walking distance to restaurants and public transit.
